Last week was ‘to say the least’ stifling and I live in Pemberton. Locals have been saying that Pemberton hasn’t had a heat wave like this for at least 12 years. On the upside, all our guests have loved going to Big Brook Dam and the Pemberton Swimming Pool to cool off, both ‘to quote one of our guests’ are “hidden gems of the South West”. Other guests have taken off to Windy Harbour or even gone 4WDing to the Yeargarup Sand Dunes and gone swimming at the beach (if you have a 4WD make sure you bring an air compressor). Just to reassure anyone thinking of coming down in February, all the chalets are airconditioned and we are only minutes from both swimming spots (you can even walk to the pool if you want).
Pemberton’s brand new festival, the ‘Southern Forest Festival-Pemberton’ is on target to happen on the 21st of April this year. Already accommodation bookings have started around Pemberton from larger groups such as the Perth Porsche Club and a few others. It is going to be a great weekend with 8 wineries from the Southern Forest region signed up to participate in our wine tent, yeh can’t wait. Our entertainment line-up has everything from professional cooking demonstrations using local produce to professional musical entertainment including the Lizards from Bridgetown (playing in the wine tent from 5 to 7pm) and other amazingly musically gifted musicians. There will also be great opportunities to purchase local fresh produce from local growers including ‘Pemberton Fresh’ and other stalls exhibiting products and produce from the region. Whereever you choose to stay, book your accommodation now as Pemberton is going to book out for this weekend and you don’t want to miss this one out. This festival is at the tail end of the school holidays and Rainbow Trail Chalets is one of the only chalet accommodation providers in Pemberton that will do two night minimum stays rather than 3 or more.
Suddenly we feel famous (well not really), Rainbow Trail Chalets will be appearing in a feature article in the travel section of the West Australian this Saturday, very exciting!!! Last week a journalist from the travel section (hi Niall) stayed in one of our spa chalets for a couple of nights and experienced a few of the things to do in Pemberton, actually I don’t think he could of crammed anymore in. His two days included a 4WD tour on the Yeargarup Sand dune system (that was in last weeks West), Frogs and Bugs night tour, some wineries and riding his mountain bike direct from his chalet onto Rainbow Trail (part of the Bib Track) and also onto the new purpose designed and built mountain bike trail just down the road. So when you are all sitting at your dining room tables this Saturday morning, don’t forget to grab the Travel Liftout and have a read, I think my pet cow (calf really) and Lilly goat (not billy, she is a she) is starring in the photo.
Pembertons annual Autumn Festival has been given a makeover, including a name and date change. Our festival is now called the Southern Forest Festival-Pemberton and has been rescheduled to coincide with the Relentless Blue Mountain Bike Race, Pemberton, on the 21st of April 2012. Pemberton wants to showcase the Southern Forest Regions products, produce and attractions in one huge three day festival. The festival will have a major focus on Southern Forest Regional food and wine and will commence on the Friday night with events such as music and of course food. The main festival will be on the Saturday with a whole day of scheduled professional entertainment, wine tasting, fresh produce stalls, kids entertainment area and more. Sunday will end the festival with a bang. A self-drive tour of some of Pembertons wineries, tourist icons, galleries and again much more has been organized on the Sunday, very exciting and new. If you don’t want to miss out, it is highly recommended that you book your accommodation now as bookings have already began, including Perth’s Porsche club which are coming down to display their pride and joys. Pemberton will book out that weekend so I recommend that ‘wherever you are going to book’ you book your Pemberton Accommodation as early as possible.
Luxury Accommodation gone a bit crazy at Rainbow Trail Chalets. It all happened at once and was chaos for a few weeks. First one orphaned lamb arrived, then another the next day and then two one week old Fresian calves the next week (what was I thinking). One calf didn’t make it (very sad day) but all the others are thriving and proving to be quite popular. Who said that cute and cuddly (yes Cheddar my calf is cute and cuddly) farm animals are just for the kids? I think some of the couples staying here have loved being able to experience a bit of country; those who have gotten up early enough have even bottle fed the babies. If you don’t mind a bit of slobber and getting butted up the behind by Cheddar when his bottle runs out then you are welcome to join in (only about another 4 weeks and they will be weaned off bottles). Cheddar loves a big scratch under the neck while Molly the lamb loves a cuddle, Abba our other lamb is just naughty, add this onto one older joey, a stick mad dog, a very affectionate cat who thinks he’s a dog and follows the kids around, a cocky who digs to China daily and loves a cuddle and 19 chooks (the girls), life is never dull for us in Pemberton at Rainbow Trail Chalets luxury spa chalets.

Not only has Rainbow Trail Chalets joined the Facebook and Twitter revolution but we have just installed a brand new IPOD/IPHONE/MP3 docking station in each of our chalets, so now you can listen to your own music without any hassle. In addition to this, CD’s can be played through the DVD player making that glass of wine on the balcony that much more relaxing.
Yes, after peer group pressure, Rainbow Trail Chalets has now joined the Facebook revolution. I have no idea on what to do with it really BUT… I had an idea. A lot of our guests who stay with us have never been to Pemberton before and have really got no idea what to see or do. I think that it would be great if guests could upload a photo and a little description of something they did while they were here, that they would like to recommend to other people. I have only been living in Pemberton three years and have still only seen a very small portion of what it has to offer,I would love to hear about your experiences and so would everyone else. I would also love to put any really fantastic shots onto my website and really show off my beautiful town to the rest of the world.
I thought that I would also take the opportunity while on facebook to show-off my little star attraction, Cocoa. I have posted a photo that I took last night of Cocoa while she was being very cute and sleepy on the lounge. Cocoa is fast becoming not such a little joey anymore, but she still thinks she is and is just a big sook (and a bit naughty sometimes to). I will keep you all up to date on her progress through facebook.
Killarnée Targa South West will be running for the second time in Pemberton this year. The race is an exciting tarmac car rallying event that’s designed to be a fun weekend away for the crews and their teams and at the same time the people in and around Pemberton and Manjimup are able to enjoy an exciting motor sport event right on their doorstep. When I say ‘right at their doorstep’, I mean this literally. This year the course has been extended and rally cars will be driving straight past our front gates, front row seats yeh (very happy).
Last year it was a lot of fun waiting for one of the drivers to make a technical error and do something embarrasing like crash, unfortunately we had to settle with a few tyre sqeals and fish tails. This year I will be sitting at my front gate with a glass of wine, chair and nibbles, so bring your comfy BBQ chairs from home and join me if you wish.
I forgot to say the date, Stage 1 is on Saturday 21st of May and Stage 2 is on the Sunday. I have put a link (just copy and paste) below that shows the route of the rally past our property.
I received a text message not so long ago from Graeme (Pemberton Discovery Tours) asking if my family and I wanted to o on a Discovery Tour to Yeargarup National Park sand dunes with Postcards WA on board. Stay tuned for that one on TV (I will keep you posted on this news sight). My kids, mother in-law and I were spoilt for a day and got to experience fantastic 4WDing through the Yeargarup Sand Dunes (the largest sand dune system in the southern hemisphere) with Graeme at the wheel. We ended up at the river mouth down at the beach where my kids got to paddle their feet. The Postcards film crew were absolutely fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. It was also really interesting seeing how it all works behind the scenes, not as glamorous as it always looks on TV (but I’ve gotta say, they’ve got great jobs). I think that the show is supposed to be airing around April ish.
I can definitely recommend that tour with Graeme (and he’s a pretty good bloke as well).
