Take the road less travelled and discover the Manjimup and Pemberton Wine Regions in the Southern Forests of Australia’s South West. This Southern Forests Wine Trail is an eclectic range of cellar doors in spectacular settings where tranquil, unhurried wine tasting experiences are on offer on along the 130km self-drive trail. Visit http://trailswa.com.au/trails/southern-forests-wine-trail to get all the details including a map. Start at Chestnut Grove Wines in Manjimup, continue through to the Pemberton Wine Region, ending at 10 Chains Estate. I recommend basing yourself at one location for a couple of nights and employ the awesome services of Don or Kathy from Pemberton People and Parcel Movers to be your guide and driver.

8th and 9th of December

The Manjimup Cherry Festival is celebrating its 16th Festival and is set to be the biggest and best yet. As usual there is a whole mixed bag of activities to choose from including cooking demonstrations hosted by Don Hancey, wine tastings attended by numerous local wineries, gardening talks, log chops, stalls and not forgetting the fireworks at the Festive Family night on the Friday night. Of course, not forgetting the main event, ‘The Cherry Harmony Soiree’ at Newton’s Orchard on the Saturday night. Rainbow Trail Chalets currently has one chalet left for that weekend so get in very quick if you are thinking of coming down. Don’t for there is now Pemberton People and Parcel Movers who will be taxiing people back and forward from this event and they are really reasonably priced (again, book them early). I almost forget, it’s all about the cherries and this is where you buy ‘first pick of the season’ cherries.

A photographers delight down here in Pemberton at the moment as our wildflowers are just stunning. I just wanted to share some of my photos of a few orchids I found in the Dentrecasteaux National Park.

Winter in Pemberton is both wet and chilly but that’s why our Karri Trees are so tall and magnificent and our walk trails are so green and lush.  What better excuse is there to have a BBQ on your balcony while taking in the views with a glass of wine after a morning out in the forest.  Don’t forget that ‘wildflower season’ begins in just a few weeks and with all this rain that we have had, it is bound to be a good one.

The Hotels Combined 2017 Recognition of Excellence has been awarded to Pemberton’s own Rainbow Trail Chalets.  Scoring an incredible 9.8 guest rating out of 10.  This is an award Hotels Combined give out to the top 3% of the world’s best hotels based on millions of guest reviews and feedback; so Steve and I are feeling just a little bit proud at the moment.  Thankyou to all our guests who have left positive reviews about our chalets somewhere in the online world; we will continue to always act on your feedback and maintain the high standards which we pride ourselves on.

The Unearthed Festival Pemberton is on again in April from the 21st to the 30th. This event showcases some of the best our southern forest region has to offer including wine, food, art, heritage and of course our beautiful forests.  There is something for everyone from farm visits to paddock to plate degustation’s, pop-up market (Hillbrook Winery this year, yay) and wine and beer tastings.  Wherever you stay in Pemberton make sure that you drop into the Festival Shop in Brockman St in town to get up to date information about the event, venues and bookings.  There are activities happening all during the week and not just the weekends so book your accommodation early so you don’t miss out.unearthed festival graphic

All the animals were loving the perfect spring weather on this day.  Every afternoon we see the immigration of dozens of kangaroos onto the horses paddock and at the moment there are a lot of very full pouches.Kangaroos are moving
